Say You'll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez (4.5/5 stars) is the kind of book that stays with you—long after you turn the last page. I absolutely loved this story. It’s beautifully written, emotionally layered, and full of the warmth, wit, and vulnerability that Jimenez is known for.
What made this reading experience even more personal for me is that I read it while my grandmother—who has Alzheimer's—was declining very quickly. That timing made certain moments in this book hit even harder. Jimenez handles the subject of memory, love, and loss with such tenderness and insight, and it felt deeply resonant in a way I wasn’t expecting.
The love story is compelling and full of heart, but what truly elevates this novel is the way it explores what it means to be remembered—not just in memory, but through the impact we leave on the people who love us.
Some quotes that really stayed with me:
“Sometimes the people you love the most are the hardest to hold on to.”
“Love is not about holding on. It's about letting go with grace when you have to.”
“Even if you forget everything else, I will remember for both of us.”That last one brought me to tears—it echoed everything I was feeling in real life while watching my grandmother’s memory fade.
The characters felt so real, and the balance between humor and heartbreak was pitch-perfect. Jimenez knows how to write about pain without making it feel heavy—and joy without making it feel forced.
I gave this book 4.5 stars only because there were a few moments where the pacing slowed slightly, but emotionally, it was nearly perfect. It was cathartic, beautiful, and exactly the kind of story I needed in that moment.
If you’ve ever loved someone whose memories are slipping away—or if you just need a story that will make you feel everything—Say You'll Remember Me is a must-read.
