People We Meet on Vacation Movie Review

I don't normally gush about a movie adaptation of a book that I love, but...holy smokes...this movie was so good! I adored reading People We Meet on Vacation a couple of years ago. Just as I do with any of Emily Henry's books. The on screen chemistry Emily Bader and Tom Blythe had was perfection.
However, some of my favorite parts of the books were left out. Y'all book version Alex is a book-reading nerd. Like sitting in a bar, alone, reading a book on his phone nerd. (Hi, it's me!) There were way more vacations in the book than the movie showed, also. I know that the movies have to condense book material in order to fit a movie into a 2-hour time frame, but it's also the exact reason I will always choose the book over the movie.
Poppy, believe it or not, is even more free-spirited, whimsical, laissez-faire in the book. She's fun and spunky, and the absolute opposite of Alex. We also missed how conservative Alex's dad was and how Poppy helped put the family back together, essentially - which makes some of the comments David makes in the movie make a little more sense. We missed that delicious backstory.
Overall, I give this movie adaptation a 4/5 stars. It's quotable, and wonderful, and yes!!! I cried. SHUT UP! Read the book or don't, but just know, I loved the book way more, and I LOVED this movie.
