I gave The Highland Fling by Meghan Quinn 3.5 stars. This one took me a little while to get into, but once it found its rhythm, the humor definitely started to hit.
Meghan Quinn’s writing always brings the laughs, and this book was no exception. There were several moments that genuinely made me smile, and her signature banter kept things entertaining even when the story felt a bit slow at the beginning.
“I’m starting to think my life is just one long series of questionable decisions.”
That said, I struggled with some of the character dynamics. The co-dependent relationship between Bonnie and Dakota was a bit much for me. Instead of feeling supportive or endearing, it often felt over-the-top and slightly distracting from the main story. Bonnie herself was a harder character for me to connect with—especially her obsession with cake, which felt unnatural and didn’t quite fit the tone of the story for me.
Rowan, however, completely made up for a lot of that. He was an absolute dream in every sense—charming, patient, and easy to fall for. He brought a steadiness to the story that balanced out some of the chaos, and I found myself far more invested in his character and growth.
“You don’t have to have it all figured out to be worth choosing.”
Overall, The Highland Fling had its ups and downs for me. The humor and Rowan’s character were definite highlights, but some of the dynamics and character choices made it harder to fully love. Still, it’s an entertaining read if you enjoy Meghan Quinn’s style and don’t mind a little chaos mixed in with your romance.
