Merry and Bright by Ali Rosen
Merry and Bright by Ali Rosen

Merry and Bright by Ali Rosen (4.5/5 stars) was an absolute delight. This short story was my first introduction to Ali Rosen, and if this is any indication of her style, I’ll definitely be seeking out more of her work. Witty, warm, and perfectly paced, it’s the kind of holiday read that feels effortless but leaves a lasting impression.

I laughed out loud so many times while listening to this—truly one of those rare stories where the humor lands again and again without feeling forced. The dialogue is sharp, the situations are charmingly chaotic, and the holiday setting adds just the right amount of sparkle. It manages to feel festive without being over-the-top, which made it even more enjoyable.

What really stood out to me was how much heart Rosen packed into such a short format. Beneath the humor is a story about connection, vulnerability, and how the unexpected moments can end up meaning the most. Lines that reflect that spirit—like reminders that Christmas rarely goes according to plan, and that sometimes the messiest nights turn into the brightest memories—perfectly capture the tone of the story.

Merry and Bright was, quite simply, perfection for me: funny, cozy, and deeply satisfying. If you’re looking for a short holiday read that will genuinely make you laugh and leave you smiling, this one is well worth your time.
