Great Big Beautiful Life (4/5 stars) felt like a quieter, more introspective turn for Emily Henry—and while it didn’t give me all the familiar romance beats I usually expect from her books, it still left a lasting impression.
This story is very much a slow burn. The romance unfolds gently and thoughtfully, taking its time instead of sweeping you up right away. If you’re looking for instant chemistry or big, swoony moments from the start, this one may feel different. But if you lean into the slower pacing, the emotional payoff is worth it.
What really stood out to me was the storytelling. Emily Henry has an incredible way of capturing longing, self-reflection, and the complicated ways people grow together and apart. The focus here felt just as much about life, timing, and personal fulfillment as it did about romance—and I appreciated that depth, even if it surprised me.
A few quotes that stayed with me:
“Sometimes the life you want doesn’t arrive loudly. Sometimes it shows up quietly and waits for you to notice.”
“Love doesn’t always look like fireworks. Sometimes it feels like choosing someone again and again.”
“We were learning that happiness isn’t something you chase—it’s something you build.”
While it didn’t give me all the classic Emily Henry romance feels, Great Big Beautiful Life was still beautifully written, emotionally grounded, and deeply reflective. I gave it 4 stars for its thoughtful storytelling and slow, meaningful exploration of love and life.
A great pick for readers who enjoy character-driven stories and aren’t afraid of a slower, more contemplative romance.
