Carl's Doomsday Scenario Review

I gave Carl's Doomsday Scenario by Matt Dinniman 3.75 stars, just like its predecessor—and I’m still very much hooked on this chaotic, ridiculous series.
This book continues to be absolutely hilarious… when it’s not making me cringe. The humor is wild, over-the-top, and sometimes completely unhinged, which works most of the time but definitely crosses into “what did I just read?” territory more than once. If you have something against giant zombies, clowns, or prostitutes… this is probably not the book for you.
That said, the characters are still what make this series shine. Carl remains a solid, grounded main character that’s easy to root for, and Princess Donut continues to completely steal the show. She is, once again, absolute gold.
And then there’s Mongo—the pet murder chicken. Somehow, in the middle of all this chaos, he’s growing on me more and more. His antics, paired with Donut’s personality, make him such a weirdly delightful addition to the story. A chaotic little nugget, if you will.
“NEW ACHIEVEMENT! You survived something horrible. Again. Try not to get used to it.”
The world continues to expand in bizarre and unpredictable ways, and while some elements still push my comfort zone a bit, I can’t deny how entertaining it all is.
This is 100% a series that needs to be listened to, not read. The audiobook just brings the humor, timing, and characters to life in a way that makes the experience so much better.
“You don’t get to choose the game. You only get to decide how you play it.”
I’m still fully invested and already looking forward to the next one.
